British Standard AU 138a:1980
BS AU 138a:1980 couplings comprise of an Emergency Line, Service Line and Auxiliary Line. Improved coupling design available here.
Truck/Tractor Couplings:

Tractor couplings must always have a self-sealing valve fitted.

On the Emergency Line there will be a Female Self-Sealing valve and a Female C Coupling.

On the Service Line there will be a Male Self-Sealing valve and a male coupling.

On the Auxiliary line there will be a Female Self-Sealing Valve and a Female CA coupling

All of these couplings are available in 1/2"BSP and M22 fittings.

The Self-Sealing valve can be purchased as an assembly with the coupling or each part may be purchased separately.

Couplings should be assembled with a suitable sealant and aluminium washers should not be used.
Trailer Couplings:

The trailer does not need a self-sealing valve.

On the Emergency Line there will be a male coupling.

On the Service Line there will be a Female C coupling and a valve lifter (to open the self-sealing valve).

On the Auxiliary Line there will be a Male CA coupling.
