How Can We Help?

What types of connection and control systems does Illston & Robson manufacture?

We specialise in heavy-duty commercial vehicle and equipment connection solutions across three core categories:

  • Airline Couplings: High-durability brake line couplings compliant with British Standards (BS AU 138a:1980 and BS AU 138b:2000), including colour-coded components for service and emergency lines.
  • Linkage Components & Balljoint Assemblies: Precision systems designed for exacting steering, actuation, and control applications.
  • Locks & Security Solutions: Robust mechanical integrity products, including anti-tamper C-Locks and palm coupling locks to protect vital machinery and fleet assets.

To ensure longstanding quality and prevent operational downtime, our finished airline couplings undergo rigorous pressure testing to guarantee leak-free performance under extreme conditions. Furthermore, our plating standards provide at least 350 hours of salt spray resistance, significantly exceeding the 96-hour requirement set by standard BS AU 138b:2000 metrics to ensure long-term field durability.

Our product range is engineered for mission-critical systems where operational readiness is non-negotiable. We primarily supply major OE manufacturers and engineers across three main sectors:

  • Commercial Vehicles: On-road trucks, fleet trailers, and logistics transport.
  • Agricultural Engineering: Heavy tractors, machinery attachments, and off-highway implements.
  • Airline Couplings: Robust and reliable air brake connections for heavy-duty vehicles.

Yes. Alongside our standard catalogue products and accessories, we offer Bespoke Solutions backed by technical collaboration. If a standard air brake coupling or balljoint linkage isn’t suited to your fleet, we will work alongside your engineering team to design and manufacture a custom solution tailored to your exact physical parameters.

Since 1908, all our primary manufacturing, assembly, and testing have been concentrated at our facility in Birmingham, England. This localised production advantage eliminates the supply chain vulnerabilities, customs bottlenecks, and shipping delays associated with overseas logistics, providing original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) across the UK and Europe with definitive lead-time certainty.
